Datu Lapulapu was considered to be the chief of a party of men who won the Battle of Mactan against the Spaniards.
But many writers and historians still question whether Magellan was killed in the battle by the Datu himself.

Philippines has a fascinating and remarkable history starting from the aforetimes up until now, the present times. In its history there had been quite a lot of heroes who fought for the country's freedom and independence in a lot of ways. But this time we'll tackle about Lapu-Lapu.We chosed Lapu-Lapu because he is the first ever known hero in the history of the Philippines. His ability and intelligence made him an excellent and a great leader, not just that but he is also a brave warrior. He is one of those heroes who fought for the country's freedom and independence. Lapu-Lapu is prominently known in the history because of his battle with the spaniards and his triumph at defeating Magellan was tremendously remarkable in the history.

Lapulapu or Lapu-Lapu, whose name was first recorded as Çilapulapu or Cilapulapu, was a datu of Mactan in the Visayas. Modern Philippine society regards him as the first Filipino hero because he was the first native to resist imperial Spanish colonization. Lapu Lapu lived on Mactan Island and soon became the chief of his people - a chief who helped his people stand on their own and fight for independence:
During his time as chief, many foreign countries tried to claim the island and the islands which were to become the Philippines as their own, including the famous explorer Ferdinand Magellan.While Magellan was conquering the neighboring island of Cebu, the explorer learned of the existence of the island and the small group of people who lived there.Magellan attempted to conquer the island by bringing troops and some of the soldiers from Cebu. However, he was met with a great amount of resistance by the Mactan people; this resistance was headed by their leader, Lapu Lapu.The Mactan people armed themselves with native weaponry and won the battle against Magellan in order to maintain their independence. Lapu Lapu and the Mactan killed Magellan and many others during this battle, which has become known in Philippine history as the Battle of Mactan.

During the battle, the tide was on Lapulapu’s side According to Antonio Pigafetta’s document of events, the Spaniard’s boats were forced to anchor their ships “two crossbow flights” away from the shore.
So the soldiers had to disembark the boat and walk into a hand-to-hand combat with the locals.
Still, according to his accounts, Magellan only had 50 troop members during the battle, against Lapulapu, who had his 1,500 warriors.
Underestimating his enemy, Magellan did not decide to call more soldiers.
Pigafetta also wrote that Lapulapu and his army aimed their fire-hardened bamboo spears and poisoned arrows at the legs of the Spanish soldiers.
With Magellan being killed, the other soldiers that survived came rushing back to the ship and left defeated.

The Battle of Mactan is celebrated every year on April 27 to remember the bravery and victory of the first Filipino hero.
Lapu-lapu has a tremendous and relevant contribution to the history of Philippines. He's the first recorded and known hero of the Philippines for his resistance to be taken over by the European countries such as Spain. Lapu lapu is a very intelligent and excellent leader and a great warrior. For his greatness, as young as he is he has a lot of accomplishments. At the age of six he already knows how to read and write and after a year he's also good at other sports aside form swimming.
